Biography
Alan Collier (MCom (Hons), Cert Tl Mngt, MNZITT, ANZIM) is a Principal Lecturer at Manukau Institute of Technology, lecturing in both tourism and marketing at Diploma and Degree level. The pioneer writer of tourism texts for New Zealand tertiary students, Alan has established many of the tourism concepts that have now become standard in any study of this topic. Alan has written a variety of training manuals for the tourism and travel industries, is author of Principles of Tourism: A New Zealand Perspective (2006), co-author of The New Zealand Tourism Industry (2005) and Principles of Tourism - Topics, Cases and Assessment Activities (1999) and co-editor of Tourism Industry Management (2004). While devoting much of his time to lecturing, Alan retains his industry links through a variety of industry consultancy roles. Currently he is working with the Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO) on the review of New Zealand's tourism and travel qualifications.
