Dawn McMillan is the fabulously successful author of several whimsical books for children, including Why do Dogs sniff Bottoms? and Why Cats rule the world and Dogs are still Slaves. She lives in a small coastal village on the western side of the Coromandel peninsula in the North Island. Dawn says, 'Poetry is my first love. For me it feels that fewer words give a stronger message. I believe that is why I enjoy writing picture books for children.' Dawn teaches part-time at a primary school. For the rest of her week she writes, while taking some time to enjoy the environment of the coast. She lives with her husband, Derek, and their cat Josie.
