Biography
W. Richard (Dick) Scott (PhD, University of Chicago) is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Sociology at Stanford University, with courtesy appointments in the Graduate School of Business, Graduate School of Education, and School of Medicine. He has spent his entire professional career at Stanford, where he served as chair of the Department of Sociology and founding director of the Stanford Center for Organization Research (SCOR). Dr. Scott is the author of many articles and more than a dozen influential books, including two widely used texts on organizations: Formal Organizations (with Peter M. Blau) and Organizations: Rational, Natural, and Open Systems, Sixth Edition (with Gerald F. Davis). A past fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, he received the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Management and Organization Theory Division of the Academy of Management, as well as the Richard D. Irwin Award for Scholarly Contributions to Management from the Academy of Management.
