Cameron was hugely popular in Series 2 of MasterChef NZ - an unassuming country bloke who cooked what he caught and hunted for his family. What's more, the judges thought he was a 'genius with flavour', able to understand what ingredients worked together perfectly - without any training at all. Judge Josh Emmet said that Cam's venison was the best he'd ever tasted. Now head chef at the refuirbished Putaruru Hotel, Cameron's food draws in diners from all over the region and from far afield. Hunter from the heartland contains about 40 excellent recipes for fish, seafood, pork, lamb, beef and poultry plus there are some great yarns from Cam about how he got into hunting, some of his best trips fishing and hunting plus some tips for catching various wildlife. It's a perfect gift for men and anyone who loves to cook tasty, hearty food for the family.

Kerre's Choice

If you're looking for a Father's Day present this would make the perfect gift, especially for a dad who loves hunting and fishing. Cameron was one of the favourite contestants on the 2011 Masterchef television show - a man who knew how to catch and cook deer and wild boar but didn't have a clue how to make pasta or bake cakes. What he did make was a lot of fans with his laid-back attitude and his authentic approach to cooking, and his first recipe book is a beauty. It features anecdotes of his life as well as more than 40 recipes, among them boil-up and kina omelette in a lemon sauce - although there is the more traditional fare as well. Hundreds of recipe books are produced every year but this one is a standout.

Hunter from the Heartland - Cameron Petley

This would be a great book to own since we are so fortunate to be able to obtain NZ foods which are unique. Knowing how Cameron prepared and cooked some of his hunting and fishing successes makes for some exciting and different recipe ideas. Cameron's personality on TV was enjoyable and I am sure his "Hunter from the Heartland" will be equally fun and value for its readers.
