If you're looking for a Father's Day present this would make the perfect gift, especially for a dad who loves hunting and fishing. Cameron was one of the favourite contestants on the 2011 Masterchef television show - a man who knew how to catch and cook deer and wild boar but didn't have a clue how to make pasta or bake cakes. What he did make was a lot of fans with his laid-back attitude and his authentic approach to cooking, and his first recipe book is a beauty. It features anecdotes of his life as well as more than 40 recipes, among them boil-up and kina omelette in a lemon sauce - although there is the more traditional fare as well. Hundreds of recipe books are produced every year but this one is a standout.

Hmmmmmm ....... sounds like the perfect book for Father's Day .... now how to subtly direct the kids in this direction?

Great to see a title recommended for men. With a Dad who used to be seriously into hunting, and who now loves cooking, looks like I've found the perfect Christmas gift!! Cam was one of my favourites on MasterChef last year. I'm sure I'm one of many who were sad to see him go. So it's awesome to read about his success. Still a 'masterchef' in my eyes.

Very timely review - thank you Kerre! My father is 98 so I don't think I can buy it for him, but I am sure it will be a very popular Father's Day gift, and I would certainly be interested in reading it myself. Cameron was quite a character when he appeared in the Masterchef series.

I'm so glad Cameron got to create a book after his time on Masterchef as he was one of my favourites and I was really sad when he left after the dessert challenge. I like that he's a good, laid-back Kiwi bloke and that that translates over to his cooking probably helps get more men interested in cooking food.

I love the way this book features both recipes and true-life stories - a winning combination!

Hunter from the Heartland - Cameron Petley

This would be a great book to own since we are so fortunate to be able to obtain NZ foods which are unique. Knowing how Cameron prepared and cooked some of his hunting and fishing successes makes for some exciting and different recipe ideas. Cameron's personality on TV was enjoyable and I am sure his "Hunter from the Heartland" will be equally fun and value for its readers.

Hunter From The Heartland

My husband goes hunting and fishing and I would find this book well worth purchasing for ideas to give variety to our diets of Venison etc.
