Ali’s Book of Tall Tales
This isn’t your bog standard run of the mill All Black autobiography. If you’ve watched Ali Williams’ career over the years, you’d know that he’d never participate in a hagiography of his life and career that glossed over the negative and lauded the positive. It’s a book that in his words shouldn’t be taken too seriously because he says the only time he gets into trouble is when people take what comes out of his mouth seriously that the trouble starts. It’s written in no particular order so you can pick it up and put it down at will and covers off such matters as why he was sent home from South Africa while playing for the Blues squad in2007; how the team got through the morning after the loss to the French in the World Cup; a recipe for burger soup and the truth behind how he busted his shoulder in 2005. There are plenty more where that came from and it’s a fun, easy and honest read. The only people who won’t like this are people who think rugby players are overpaid, show ponies and teachers who still wake up with nightmares after having smart alec, devil may care larrikins like Ali Williams in their classrooms. Everyone else will be entertained.
