Ajax the Kea Dog

Corey is a wildlife biologist working for the Department of Conservation and specialises in work to protect the endangered kea bird. Ajax is a working dog trained to help find the nests of kea birds in remote parts of the South Island. Together, Corey and Ajax make the perfect team to monitor the native bird species and protect them from predators. This is their story of adventures and escapades in the difficult and unpredictable terrain of the back country. It takes a special dog to not enact hunting instinct and cause harm to the precious birds but Ajax is highly skilled and disciplined. Together, they traverse the hills, travel in helicopters, work through blizzards, flee from angry wasps and sleep out in bitterly cold temperatures. This is the perfect read for you if you love nonfiction, animals and nature. - Reviewed by our lovely Sue Reid from Paper Plus Masterton
