Anzac Animals

From time to time we hear courageous stories of animals in war time so it is a fitting tribute to collate many of these stories into one beautiful book for children. Twenty stories are presented from World War One and World War Two – heart-warming true accounts of animals that helped the australian and new Zealand soldiers. Written by new Zealand author Maria Gill and illustrated by Marco ivancic who won the 2016 Margaret Mahy book of The year for ANZAC Heroes. “Fascinating tales of mascots and working animals that helped ANZAC soldiers, sailors, pilots and medics to do their jobs...Murphy the donkey carried the wounded in Gallipoli, Caesar the Red Cross dog helping the NZ Riflemen, Torty the tortoise mascot and Bess the war horse – to name a few.” some animals were useful in helping with warnings of the enemy but others were helpful in keeping the soldiers morale boosted. complete with colourful illustrations and historical photos, along with an extensive glossary and bibliography, making it a fabulous book for children and schools.
