Depending on your stand point, Gloriavale is either a fundamentalist Christian community or a sinister cult as controversial as Scientology, but here in New Zealand. Much has been written before, much of it speculative - but this book is the first insider's account of the extreme life and what happens when a member leaves to pursue a life outside the community. In this absolutely compelling and personal account, Lilia Tarawa exposes the shocking secrets of the cult, with its rigid rules and oppressive control of women.
