Flourish

From home design to the outside, this is New Zealand women and their extraordinary gardens. It showcases women who have worked tirelessly to create unforgettable gardens, bringing their vision to life with energy and verve. The authors have searched throughout New Zealand to fi nd the very best to feature in this sumptuous gift book. Each gardener and garden has a story to tell from home-based hobbyists through to true green-fi ngered artists so this book captures a full, diverse range of minute to massive projects. At the heart of this collection is a group of women that have responded to their landscape, climate and challenging terrain. Each region is represented and our very own Jo Beetham and Lyn Eglinton feature with pride of place. Jo’s “edgy contemporary architecture of the house is matched in mood and form by a fringe of native planting that melts seamlessly into the wider landscape. It’s an understated, seemingly simple garden, but much thought and planning has gone into tying house and land.” Lyn reflects on her original scribbles of first drawings “I wanted it to be an entrance that’s definite, though not like a gated village or retirement home. I was going for something simple and country and defi nitely not pretentious...Lyn loves the way these ‘heaven trees’ link blue sky to green hills, especially in the Wairarapa with its wide panoramas.” Within 16ha, Lyn always aims for light and shadow effects with a structured garden along classical lines and is always aware of excellent design and the importance of the discerning eye which she applies within her own design business. It’s perfect for the garden fan this Christmas.
