this delightful new children’s book has recently won the NZ Storylines Gavin Bishop Award for illustrations. Granny is a keen knitter and no one can stop her but all were tiring of knitted knickers et-al! Granny needed a new mission for her ‘flying needles and wool all a whirr! until the Rena grounding that left penguins in need of warm garments to help them recover from the spoils of oil.... before she could utter ‘ninety-nine nutty knitters’ she’d made penguin pyjamas with armholes for flippers! underlying the fun tale is a more serious message about care of the environment and what individuals can do to help to restore animals health. beautiful in layout but descriptive language that will be a terrific story read aloud to your young children. Rhyming and rhythmic, big new words to enrich vocabulary and set the brain waves whizzing – it’s all here to be discovered.
