Perhaps you have been watching TV2’s new Great Kiwi Bake Off and watching contestants creating delectable delights. There is a science to success in baking and during the show we bear witness to the execution of correct method and process. It is the science that allows the puff in the pastry, the lightness in the
filling or the right level of crunch essential in crust! Dean Brettschneider is one of the judges on the show – a role not new to him, as he has been judge on Hottest Home Baker several years ago. So it is timely that he has his new baking book out to coincide with the TV series. His expertise is in pastry and gives us recipes to bring the professional standard to our homes. If you get the basics right then the rest will follow. He covers chapters on baking essentials, ingredients, equipment, weights & measures, bread & sourdough, bakery inspired food, pastries, biscuits & slices, cakes and desserts. So after being inspired by the TV series, the next step is to master the tricks of the trade and create your own cafe at home!
