Lost Flowers of Alice Hart

This beautifully written story is heartbreaking, memorable and confronting. Alice is a young woman damaged by the cycle of violence and grief that dominates her life and the author, Holly Ringland, does not shy away from brutal reality A very impressive novel from a debut author.

Lost Flowers of Alice Hart

A debut author and for those that loved Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail honeyman or Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbauer, you'll love this too. Set in coastal northern and inland Queensland, the vivid colours and design of Australia's native flora burst into bloom. Essentially this story covers three stages of Alice's life – her early years until she's nine, her middle years, then her life as a young woman eager to find her way in an undiscovered world. Alice lives an isolated and tortured childhood, seeing the suffering of her mother at the hands of her abusive father. She witnesses her mother's fading spirit to live until tragedy strikes. Then at nine years old, she goes to live on her grandmother's wildflower harvesting farm and this is a time for her to unravel the many secrets that surround her existence. Untold stories haunt her but she draws strength and resilience from the familiarity of nurturing native flowers from seed to bloom – something that started with her mother's lessons. her grandmother teaches her more as she carries the ancient floral folklore from generations before her eager to pass the art to Alice! Dark and mysterious, dramatic and tense in style with secrets to dig for and it all becomes clear and connected to complete a most satisfying read.
