My Mother's Kitchen: New Zealand's best chefs and foodies share their favourite mother's recipes

“New Zealand’s best chefs, bakers and foodies share their mother’s special recipes” I’m sure we all have a favourite memory from something Mum used to bake or create. They evoke strong, sentimental memories and life that has gone by. This larger format holds an extensive collection from 77 of New Zealand’s best! Often the food they grew up with has become their own source of inspiration for their foodie careers. The stellar line-up includes: Josh Emett, Karena & Kasey Bird, Peta Mathias, Simon Gault, Michael Van De Elzen, Nici Wickes, Lauraine Jacobs, Charles Royal, Fleur Sullivan and many others. There are memorable stories from their childhoods, including Auckland’s Sachie Nomura from Sachie’s Kitchen sharing of how she would help her mother prepare the ‘bento boxes’ which come from her Japanese culture. Bento boxes always have variety but include starch, protein, vegetables and fruit and I can recall the joy of my children’s travels to Japan and their experience of the varied bento lunchboxes! Some of the foodies talk three generations from grandparent, parent and passing the traditions onto their children.
