Star of the North

The publishers tag says ‘the most explosive thriller of the year’ – and that is not an exaggeration! I read a lot, have my favourite authors including Daniel Silva – who is top of my favourite list, so it’s a tall ask to put another author alongside him... until now. D B John delivers a credible, emotive, fascinating insight into the cruel dictatorship and regime within North Korea. He highlights how far and wide the tentacles of the Kim Dynasty reaches and the desperation of families to rescue their missing loved ones. Within the North Korean borders there are families too and their desperation is also active. He writes with authority and co-wrote Girl With Seven Names a non-fiction account of Hyeonseo Lee’s escape from North Korea. This memoir was the inspiration for this new fiction title. Star of the North is the story of two South Korean sisters and two very different experiences when life interrupts. Soo-min is kidnapped from a South Korean Island along with her beloved Jae-hoon and the mystery has haunted her sister until the CIA need her expertise to infiltrate the fortified North Korean regime. You won’t be disappointed in this complete and thorough novel and it’s perfect to accompany you through the winter nights. If you loved ‘I am Pilgrim’ then this is one to delve into.
