This is Bridget’s rst adult novel after writing for the
young adult audience. She’s moved into her new market
with boldness and strength with this striking novel. If
you’re a fan of the Miniaturist by Jessie Burton then you’ll
love the blend of magic and mystery that Bridget brings.
Sarah recently read this and gives us her review:
“Poor Emmett Farmer doesn’t exactly leap for joy
when a letter arrives summoning him to begin an
apprenticeship as a book binder. It’s a vocation that
arouses fear and superstition but after a long and
mysterious illness it’s work he nor his family can afford
to refuse. He learns to hand-craft beautiful volumes
and within each book he will capture something
extraordinary– a memory. If there is something you want
to forget or need to erase, he can help. Your past will be
safely stored in a book and you will never remember your
secret, no matter how terrible. But then one day, in the
vault under his mentor’s workshop, Emmett discovers a
book that has his name on in it….
This is an original story, brilliantly written and rich in
gothic entertainment with a powerful and unique love
story with one of the best twists I’ve read in a long time.”
