Her name is Sammy Went. This photo was taken on her second birthday. Three days later she was gone.
On a break between teaching photography classes, Kim Leamy is approached by a stranger investigating the disappearance of a little girl from her Kentucky home twenty-eight years earlier. He believes Kim is that girl.

At first she brushes it off, but when Kim scratches the surface of her family background in Australia, questions arise that aren't easily answered. To find the truth, she must travel to Sammy's home of Manson, Kentucky, and into a dark past.

As the mystery unravels and the town's secrets are revealed, this superb novel builds towards a tense, terrifying and entirely unexpected climax. Inspired by Gillian Flynn's frenetic suspense and Stephen King's masterful world-building, The Nowhere Child is a combustible tale of trauma, cult, conspiracy and memory.

It is the remarkable debut of Christian White, an exhilarating new Australian talent who is attracting worldwide attention.

Nowhere Child

Refreshingly original plotting sets this twisty tale aside from the rest. When a woman in Australia is approached by a stranger, telling her he believes her to be the result of a child abduction in Kentucky 28 years earlier, a truly memorable story begins to unfold.

Nowhere Child

Our store owner Warwick recently read this, loved it and shares his review with us: “One day Kim Leamy is approached by a stranger investigating the case of a little girl who went missing from her home 28 years earlier. He believes Kim is that girl...Thus begins a truly addictive journey, from past to present, from Melbourne to Kentucky. It’s a combustible tale of trauma, cult conspiracy and memory. The characters are strong and superb, the writing fluid, impressive and devoid of the usual clichés of the genre. The pages are loaded with suspense, love, hate, murder and a nice helping of religious nutjobs dancing with rattlesnakes! The best books are un-put-downable and this is one of those with a surprising and satisfying ending from this debut author.” Her name is Sammy Went...a photo was taken of her on her second birthday and three days later she was gone... Perfect book to reach for on these cold winter nights.
