Working Class Man

last year we read about legendary Jimmy barnes’ traumatic childhood in Working Class Boy and this year the sequel to that has just been released – Working Class Man. He continues with his raw cathartic writing style and tells of the years in the music industry, the highway of self-destruction he was on and the peace of mind he craved. To say it is an honest book is an understatement. Jimmy wrote this for himself as much as for his thousands of fans and you’ll love him all the more for his up front ‘tell it like it is’ approach. Some will say this is the book they were expecting last year – his ‘rock years’ but his childhood years had to come first to set the scene and bring understanding to the demons Jimmy was fighting in his adulthood. It is incredible to think that he is now 60 and yet it has only been in recent years he has been able to unbundle the anger, rage and dysfunction that shaped his formative years. He credits his wife Jane for ‘literally saving his life’ and she has been a dependable constant in his life. This biography completes Barnesy’s story but I’m sure there is more to come from this incredible survivor via song and stage.
