This work contains a background and brief history of British Sign Language and its importance to deaf people's lives. It introduces the Building Blocks of BSL - the handshapes, locations, and movements together with the non-manual features of the face and body. The images show Amy and Ben signing a useful basic vocabulary that learners of all ages can relate to. The signs chosen include social and emotional concepts that should also complement programmes aimed at developing social and interpersonal competence and emotional literacy. The materials include tutor's notes, and numerous copyable worksheets, games, activities and exercises that incorporate BSL into Citizenship, Inclusion, Literacy and Language work in class or home, offering something for all ages and all abilities. The Tutor contains a foreword by the Right Honourable Marjorie (Mo) Mowlam MP, and comes with a mini CD-Rom containing moving image video-clips of the signs.
