Takes you through the benefits of bike riding, offering all the information you need to know to start pedalling: choose your bike with the differences between types, such as hybrid and racer; how to choose your helmet, clothing and other accessories; care and maintenance, and how to keep safe on the roads. This invaluable new guide takes you through all the benefits of bike riding, along with everything you need to know to get pedalling: how to choose your bike - with the differences between types, such as hybrid and racer; how to choose your helmet, clothing and other accessories; and, care and maintenance. Step-by-step photographs complement the clear and practical text, to make this an ideal guide for all levels of cyclist. There have never been more reasons to hop into the saddle: not only is it fun, healthy and speedy, it is the ultimate environmentally-friendly way to travel. Governments are making it more appealing all the time, with dedicated cycle lanes springing up all over the country and subsidised cycle purchase schemes, so here's a fantastic, practical guide to cover all your needs. AUTHOR: David North is a writer and editor who has been promoting sustainability and ethical trade for many years. In 2007 he created the first handbook of sustainable procurement for schools, then went on to co-create Sustained magazine and edit the Ethical Junction website and newsletter. He is passionate about cycling, once working as a cycle courier, then commuting to work by bicycle over two decades. He has also undertaken several trans-European cycle tours. Mark Bickerton has been riding bikes all his life, having been practically born on one (his father Harry invented the Bickerton Portable Bicycle). While director and latterly MD of Bickerton Rowlinson Ltd, Mark also imported some very early Dahon folding bikes and some of the first mountain bikes. He later formed Fusion Cycles Ltd - now Cyclemotion - selling Fusion, Klein, Dahon and Voodoo bikes. A family of cyclists, there are currently nine bikes in his family of five.
