An international bestseller and a truly unforgettable and life-changing story. The story of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is very difficult to describe. Usually we give some clues about the book on the cover, but in this case we think that would spoil the reading of the book. We think it is important that you start to read without knowing what it is about. If you do start to read this book, you will go on a journey with a nine-year-old boy called Bruno. And sooner or later you will arrive with Bruno at a fence. We hope you never have to cross such a fence.

A poignant and compelling read

Sofija, ST HELIERS (Staff) - April 2021

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a poignant and compelling read, the story staying with me for weeks after I completed the last page. Crafted beautifully in true John Boyne style, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is set hauntingly in the German centre of WW2, through the eyes of two young boys. The innocent dual perspective made for a heart-breaking and deeply thought-provoking read. Beyond the story, Boyne forces us to reflect more broadly on what it is to be human, and the centrality of empathy and compassion which we must carry with us. I consider it to be essential reading, and should be on everyone’s books to read in your life bucket list
